The program is comprised of two subprograms: the teacher pathway program and teacher fellows program. The Teacher pathway is the focus of this landing page.

VOICES of Pre-Service Teachers is a podcast series that amplifies the authentic experiences of students pursuing teaching careers through the Rural Postsecondary & Economic Development (RPED) grant program in South Dakota. Through candid conversations with high school and college students at various stages of their educational journey, the podcast explores what drives tomorrow's educators to choose teaching, the real challenges they face, and their commitment to serving rural communities. From students taking their first dual-credit education courses to those completing teacher residencies, these unscripted discussions reveal personal stories of transformation, address common misconceptions about teaching, and highlight the unique opportunities within rural education. As part of the RPED initiative—a partnership between the University of South Dakota, Compass, and rural school districts—this podcast serves as both inspiration for future educators and documentation of the critical pipeline addressing rural teacher shortages, giving voice to the passionate students who are choosing to shape the future of education in their communities.
