Disclaimer
The Shared OverDrive collection contains materials selected by professional OverDrive librarians using established library science principles and collection development standards. This collection includes materials for diverse age groups and reading levels, from elementary through adult audiences.
By participating in the Shared OverDrive collection, school districts acknowledge their responsibility to independently evaluate and determine the appropriateness of all materials for their respective communities, students, and educational goals. Districts are responsible for ensuring that their participation and access to materials align with all applicable local and state laws, executive orders, and regulations for their region.
We strongly encourage districts to:
- Establish clear policies regarding digital collection access and age-appropriate filtering
- Communicate these policies clearly to students, parents, and educational staff
- Provide guidance to parents on monitoring their children's digital reading
- Consider implementing parental controls or supervised access as appropriate for their community
We understand that community values and standards vary significantly across our participating districts. When concerns arise about specific materials, we encourage open dialogue between districts and their communities. However, please note that the technical structure of the shared collection means individual titles cannot be removed for specific districts without affecting all participants.
Districts seeking to modify their participation or withdraw from the Shared OverDrive collection entirely may contact asksora@overdrive.com to explore available options.
