Dr. Scott Simpson & Sharla Steever
Authors | Learning Specialists | Founders of the CircleBridge Framework
Dr. Scott Simpson and Sharla Steever are educators, authors, and facilitators whose shared work centers on relational trust, intercultural growth, and human-centered learning. Together, they are the co-creators of the CircleBridge Framework and co-authors of CircleBridge: How Stories Bring Us Together, Human-Shaped Learning: Beings Before Doings, Storywork: A Dynamic Story-Based SEL Curriculum, and Relational Landscaping: The Human Terrain of Organizations.
With more than five decades of combined experience across K–12 education, higher education, leadership development, and community engagement, Scott and Sharla partner with schools, districts, nonprofits, tribal communities, and organizations seeking meaningful cultural transformation. Their work blends research-based practice with storytelling, reflection, and practical tools that help people navigate difference with humility and courage.
As co-developers and co-directors of the WoLakota Project and Teachings of Our Elders, they have collaborated with Indigenous elders across North and South Dakota to document and preserve cultural wisdom while supporting the integration of Indigenous Essential Understandings into schools. Their long-standing relationships with tribal communities are rooted in trust, protocol, and shared learning.
Both are certified Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Administrators and facilitators of the Circle of Trust® approach through the Center for Courage & Renewal. They have led seasonal retreat series, professional learning pathways, and keynote sessions across the country, guiding educators and leaders through reflective conversations that build belonging and strengthen culture.
Scott brings a background in English education, creative writing, music, and university teaching. Sharla brings experience as a National Board Certified Teacher, U.S. Department of Education Teaching Ambassador Fellow, and longtime elementary educator. Together, they integrate scholarship, creativity, and relational presence into every space they enter.
Their presentations are known for blending depth and accessibility—inviting participants to slow down, listen deeply, and rediscover the power of story to build bridges across difference.
Sit down with Brady Licht, Dr. Scott Simpson, Sharla Steever, and Michael Hernandez as they discuss why storytelling is education's answer to AI disruption, cultural polarization, and student disengagement.
